Canon:
- Michael has disappeared from her home universe, expecting to land in the same position but 930 years into the future. Michael is something of a secret, having been erased from Starfleet records.
- Michael's canon tends to deal with deep issues such as self identity, war, sacrifice, and loyalty. Starfleet is an organization that stands for integrity, but will sometimes lose its way and make bad decisions that don't fit under this banner.

- Michael has been granted powers in game:
○ Super speed
○ Flight
○ Extra boosts of both with her Red Angel Suit

OU, AU, CRAU, Canon OC, or OC? Original universe
Canon point: The end of the season 2 finale, as Michael goes through a wormhole in her time travel suit in order to go through to the future.
Age: 31
SETTING BACKGROUND
In the Star Trek universe, mankind of the fairly near future has achieved warp capabilities and made it to outer space. As soon as man entered warp, they were contacted by the Vulcans, who were united with the Andorians as the United Federation of Planets. Humans founded Starfleet, which had a mission of exploring the galaxy in starships, and joined the Federation.
Starfleet’s efforts have been depicted in several show series, as well as a plethora of films. Discovery is a prequel to The Original Series, depicting a scientific research vessel that has been researching the mycelial network in outer space for use as a means of space travel.
HISTORY
PERSONALITY
Michael is, first and foremost, a person bound by duty. She feels immense responsibility for her past actions that have turned out to be mistakes, and she takes the responsibility upon herself for these mistakes in a way that borders on self-punishment. For example, after her mutiny on the Shenzhou, she tries to refuse to serve on the Discovery, expecting to spend the rest of her life in Starfleet prison. Lorca, the captain of Discovery, convinces her otherwise, however, and she begins her service there despite the fact that she’s blamed herself entirely for the war starting and for Georgiou’s death. This martyr/savior complex leads her to put herself in harm’s way for others time and time again, a point that Spock lambasts her for bitterly when they encounter each other again.
Michael, having been raised among Vulcans, sees logic and emotion as two sides of a coin, and until the events of the war had striven to behave in a logical manner. However, her human crewmates, particularly Sylvia Tilly and Paul Stamets, help her to see that her human emotions can be an asset. She begins a relationship with Ash Tyler because of their convincing, and begins to let go of some of her assumptions about what it means to take responsibility for something.
Michael is therefore quite a malleable character through the course of her on-screen interactions, becoming more and more human in her behaviors and reactions as things go on. She has grown to the point where she’s willing to show her emotions in front of others, even when those emotional reactions bring her to tears. However, she always makes certain that if someone needs to make a personal sacrifice, she’ll be the one to make it. Her relationships with her crewmates have changed in many cases over the course of two seasons from being quite frosty to being close friendships. One example of this is her relationship with Saru, who saw her as dangerous after her mutiny, to eventually progressing to the point where he trusts her to be the one attending her when he thinks he’s going to die.
Fortunately, Michael is also someone who’s willing to see when she is wrong and adjust her course accordingly. A year after her mutiny on the Shenzhou, she gives a speech addressed to Admiral Cornwell suggesting that she had learned much from her previous year spent on the Discovery, particularly about Starfleet ethics. She gives this speech to avoid a Klingon genocide becoming the tactic taken by Starfleet to end the war against them. Indeed, this would be an action that goes against everything Starfleet stands for, and in the end Admiral Cornwell agrees.
Michael, in summary, is all about self-discovery, even when she doesn’t realize it. She’s growing as a person and in her personality. Although she does her best to stay true to herself, and to who she thinks she’s been raised to be, she also doesn’t recognize it at first when she is growing and changing and learning more.

POWER SELECTION
Noospheric Powers:
ABILITIES
Michael is a xenoanthropologist and physicist, having studied in both the Vulcan Science Academy and in Starfleet. She is skilled at hand-to-hand and with a phaser (that is, a pointy-shooty weapon). She’s also capable of performing the Vulcan neck pinch, which immediately incapacitates human opponents and knocks them out for at leasta few seconds.
SETTING/SUITABILITY
➤ How do you expect your character to respond to the setting? Even if they plan to rebel in the long term, will they be able to at least obey enough to not get shocked to death?
Michael will find it to be another unexpected and unwitting setting change, of which she has encountered several because of Discovery’s jumping ability. She will do her best to fit in and make the best of life on the rig.
➤ What do you hope to do with your character long-term?
I hope to have Michael help with any mutiny attempt, and perhaps for her to find love on the rig to help her get over Ash.
➤ Does your character currently have skills that would allow them to adapt, survive, and do the heroic things being asked of them? If your character doesn't, do you think they'd have the capacity to learn quickly?
Yes, she will definitely be able to survive in this setting.
➤ If they're not used to cooperating with others, what makes you think they'll be able to adapt to cooperating with the group?
Michael is definitely used to finding the strengths among those around her and helping to make those into an advantage.
➤ Will your character have long-term plans to rebel against Jorgmund? If so, how? Will they betray the other PCs and cooperate with Jorgmund? If so, how do you plan to handle the negative CR that might arise?
Michael will want to band together with the other new hires and try to find a way to infiltrate the control tower, so to speak. She knows what it is not to be free and wants to avoid anyone feeling that way in the future.

Fine, then. I dislike how humans feel it necessary to expect other species to behave the way they do. All the time.
[ Another short silence ensues and Michael feels that she perceives that they want her to continue. ]
They really do. They do this with the Vulcans and they do this with the Klingons. Just because humans are human, they seem to think they’re superior to everyone else. That equation doesn’t work out.
[ As before, the Jorgmund employee jots something down, and then asks the final question: You’re a new addition to the crayon box, what color would you be and why?
Michael now looks much more sardonic in her expression. She scoffs lightly. ]
What is the point of this? You want to know that I’d be a luscious red, for what reason?
[ And why would this be the case? the interviewer prompts, sparing her the shock this time.
Michael gives her bonds another little test before speaking. ]
I would be this color because it’s the color to warn for danger. It’s the color that we notice. It’s the color that we wear when we want to be attractive.
[ The Jorgmund employee writes once again, and then releases her bonds. She shakes out her wrists, gives the employee a sharp look, and then punches him in the face.
It’s almost worth the shock she receives afterwards. ]

ADDITIONAL INFO
At her canon point, Michael was entering a wormhole wearing the Red Angel suit, which is capable of time and space travel. I understand that it’s likely that its time travel capabilities would be nerfed entirely, but I’d like her to retain this suit as well as its flight capabilities. Not to say that I expect Michael to achieve space flight in it; I’m also certain that there will also be height and distance nerfing in place for her suit.
FINAL QUESTIONS
➤ Will your character suspect some kind of guiding intelligence has brought them to the game? Or will they think it was random or done by Jorgmund?
Michael will assume the outcome of the wormhole jump in her Red Angel suit has resulted in her landing in some unknown time and place.
➤ If they think it was something other than Jorgmund, like God or some other force of fate, what character traits do they think of that intelligence as having? Is it cruel or kind? Capriciously punishing them or doing it for good reason?
If there’s any intelligence responsible for her landing where she has, she’s going to assume it’s Control, which is an AI that has been attacking Starfleet’s intelligence sector. For this reason she will assume it’s malicious.
➤ MOD NOTE:
We would like to place the following limits on Michael’s capabilities.
Small 3-second bursts of superspeed are fine, so long as they are limited in how frequently they occur. The limit we’ve agreed upon is four three-second bursts of speed per hour.
For the suit, rather than time travel, we would like to limit it to line-of-sight teleportation and a top flight speed of 80 miles per hour. Going from zero to 80 would take a bit of acceleration. Additionally, the suit wouldn’t be able to used in a vacuum or serve as an EVA suit in dangerous environments, as it would not hold a seal. It would also be vulnerable to bullets and attacks.
Finally, we would like to limit use of the suit to missions.

HISTORY
- Michael Burnham, who is named after her father, is raised on a scientific research station. When Michael is 10, Klingons land on the space station and attack.
- Michael is rescued after her parents’ apparent deaths by Sarek, a Vulcan who is among the first to arrive to rescue those who were attacked by the invading Klingons.
- Michael grows up in the household of Sarek and his wife Amanda, being raised alongside her foster brother Spock, who is about 3 years younger than her.
- Michael attends the Vulcan Science Academy, studying quantum physics.
- Michael then completes her Starfleet training on the USS Shenzhou after Sarek brings her there. She eventually becomes a Commander, serving second under captain Phillippa Georgiou.
- The Shenzhou encounters a Klingon ship and Michael asks Sarek how the Vulcans have avoided hostilities with the Klingons. He explains that the Klingons see the pursuit of peace at any cost as a weakness, and the Vulcans had realized they needed to fire first in any encounter with Klingons. The Klingons had therefore pursued peace with the Vulcans, who they viewed as strong.
- Michael attempts to convey this information to Georgiou, but Georgiou rejects Michael’s conclusions. Michael, in desperation, uses the Vulcan neck pinch to knock Georgiou out and takes command of the ship, telling the helm to fire. However, Geogiou regains consciousness fast enough to prevent Michael’s success in this attempt, and has her thrown in the brig for mutiny.
- In the ensuing battle, Michael manages to escape the brig, and beams over to the Klingon ship with Georgiou. Their attempts to prevent a war fail and Michael is forced to witness Georgiou’s death.
- Burnham is subsequently convicted of mutiny by Starfleet and has to live with the fact that everyone sees her as the cause of the war with the Klingons.
- Burnham is being transported to a prison ship when her shuttle is diverted to the USS Discovery. She later learns that the Captain of the ship, Gabriel Lorca, had the shuttle deliberately diverted so that he could conscript her as part of his crew for the war effort.
- Serving on the Discovery under the rank of Specialist, Michael learns the experimental vessel contains technology that will allow it to use a network of mycelium that spans all of space in order to fast travel to any location.
- As part of the war effort, the Discovery is forced to fight in several battles, one of which results in the ship ending up in the Terran “Mirror Universe”. The Terran Empire of this universe is ruthless and seditious, and people often make captain or a position as ruler by assassinating their competition. Michael eventually learns the Lorca she has known actually belongs to the Mirror universe, and she escapes after his assassination with the mirror universe counterpart of Georgiou, who had been the ruthless emperor.
- Georgiou, despite being of a much more cruel place, is able to help the leadership of Starfleet to discover how to end the Klingon war. Michael, however, prevents her from completing her mission, which would have resulted in the genocide of the Klingons. Starfleet goes with Michael’s solution and later reinstates her to service, giving her the medal of honor.
- Spock, Sarek and Amanda’s son, takes leave from his position on the Enterprise and Michael works out that it has something to do with seven strange signals that have been broadcast across the galaxy. In the course of the investigation, she reunites with her foster brother, whose relationship with her has always been somewhat frosty.
- Eventually, Michael and her crewmates work out the signals have to do with Michael’s mother, who escaped the Klingon attack in a time travel suit. She’s irrevocably tethered to the time period where she had landed, leaving her to try time and again to appear to Michael, her crewmates, and her foster brother, Spock, in an attempt to avoid the reality of the future she has seen.
- Michael and Spock realize she has been the one broadcasting the signals, not her mother, and she places them each in the time and place where they belong. She then opens a wormhole to send Discovery 930 years into the future.

POWER SELECTION
Noospheric Powers:
- The Super Save: Michael’s tendency to blame herself when others are in trouble and to always attempt to save them translates into the ability to save people at super speed when they are in physical danger. This is a burst of super speed that lasts just long enough to yank them out from in front of that speeding bus, for example.
- Fast Flight: Michael’s Red Angel suit, which can fly her to another time and place, leads her to be able to suddenly and rapidly fly to another location seemingly without effort. The presence of the suit itself would lead to a greater ability, but she would be able to do this in a limited way even without the suit.

- Backtagging: I prefer to play out what I can of a thread in a fairly timely manner. If it's looking like what is happening between our characters is going to have a major impact on their CR longterm, I'll keep backtagging for some months, but for the most part if it's beyond the current plot and it's not going much of anywhere I'm liable to lose interest.
- Threadhopping: I'm all for this in network posts as long as things are open (i.e. there's no indication the transmission is private). For logs, I'd like to be advised you're going to do this, but will most likely be open to it.
- Fourthwalling: No, thank you.
- Off limits: Noncon/rape.
- Warn first: I don't really have any triggers, though I am uncomfortable with elaborate descriptions of gore and such. Putting a cw in the subject line for anything upsetting should cover me.
[IC]
- Physical affection: Michael may take some time to warm up to your character before she will respond well to a greeting hug.
- Physical violence: Michael is skilled in hand-to-hand and shooting, so your character may find her a formidable opponent. Check with me before initiating anything.
- Romance: Michael has recently had to let go of a romantic partnership and may be open to new connections.
- Use of telepathy/mind reading: Michael has had the Vulcan mind meld performed on her and will recognize it if someone enters her mind. She knows how to put up a fight in this manner.
- CRAU recognition: No, thanks.
- Facetwins: No.
